GETTING OLDER IS INEVITABLE, BUT GETTING WISER ISN’T!
Recently I saw a friend on Facebook share a blog post from Wendi Hansen from hellogiggles.com who posted “28 Things Learned at 28” (http://hellogiggles.com/28-things-learned-28/). It was interesting so I decided to do the same and reflect on my 27th year!
On Friday May 15th I celebrated my birthday, I am another year older (and wiser of course) and turned 28. I am officially in my late 20’s, time flies!!!! A lot of women feel pressure for turning another year older, however surprisingly I am not one of those women. It also helps that I don’t look my age, which is a major PLUS! But the 30’s are right around the corner.
I stepped back and took some time to reflect on the past year and see what it taught me, what I want to change and what’s important to me in life. Here are the 27 things that I learned at 27!
- Start each day on a Positive note!
Start each morning with a positive thought and attitude and it could change your entire day….. try it! It takes time to get in this mindset every day and you might fall off from time to time, but if most of your week starts off in a positive manner then it’s a job well done!
- It’s okay to get off schedule.
I am a planner and love schedules for events or trips BUT it’s important to realize that it’s okay to stray off schedule. Everyone has plans for their future and long term life goals, however I have learned that life has not gone according to my plans at all! And that’s okay. Everything happens the way it’s supposed too, so sit back and enjoy the ride!
- Body image isn’t everything.
Unfortunately society gives women a negative body image. But that is not real life. We should be striving to be healthy instead of focusing on the sizes of your clothes. All you can do is eat well and exercise often. If you do that then you will get the results you want. It may not happen as fast you like it, but it will. Keep faith and work hard. You may have to remind yourself a million times that you are working hard and that’s okay!
- Beauty is from the inside!
There are all forms of beauty, but hopefully you see the beauty in others come from within. Anyone can be a pretty face, but it’s what your heart expresses that makes you beautiful. A good personality, brains and a good heart is beautiful.
- Every day is a NEW day!
Having a bad day??? That’s okay tomorrow is a new day to start over! Part of a good/bad day is your attitude. Change your attitude and you could change the way you view life! Leave the past in the past and move forward!
- Be a better person.
If you never want to be a better person than you were yesterday then you are not progressing in life and that leaves no room for growth as a person. Be better. Do Better. Strive for more. Make Changes. Grow. Learn. Live.
- Morals & Beliefs
Always follow a path behind morals and beliefs, this determines who you are! It gives you character and gives you a code to follow.
- Appreciate others.
Many times we cherish the wrong things in life. Like Cars, Designers, Money or sometimes we even value celebrities or people who we have never even met over the people in our lives. Never let those things overshadow your appreciation of the people in your life, the people there for you each and every day and that would do anything for you. Appreciation can go a long way!
- Mistakes happen.
Mistakes will always happen, that is human nature. Just be sure to learn from them and do whatever you can to not make the same mistakes twice. If you have a good heart and come from a good place and actually want to be better, then be proud of that.
If someone has wronged you and they understand what they did was wrong and are coming from a good place within their heart, then forgive. The worst thing you could do is make an irrational choice based upon something that someone that is being truly sincere and genuine in their quest for forgiveness.
- Take pride in yourself.
Know who you are. Know what kind of person you are striving to be. Know what you deserve. Be proud of the person you have become. Don’t let anyone take that from you.
- Stop Rushing!
Everyone is always in a rush to do something or go somewhere. Why??? Slow down. Take your time. Don’t miss out on all the things around you because you are always rushing around.
- Age is just a number.
Don’t stress it, getting older is inevitable so enjoy the time and have no regrets. Focus on your goals and aspirations because that is all that matters in life.
- You win some and you lose some
Ahh well isn’t this a mouthful. This can apply to many things but just remember that not everything can be in your control. Nothing is going to go according to plan and you can’t expect it too. So just roll with the punches and keep on moving on! Focus on the good…. that is all you can do.
- Stay away from negativity.
Unfortunately negativity surrounds us, so just be mindful. Don’t let it get the best of you. And if it does, use it as a lesson for the future. You are better than that and you don’t need negativity in your life. Kick it to the curb!
- Reach for the stars!
Chase dreams, seize opportunities, and strive for something bigger and better! “Its better to have tried than to have not tried at all.” Life is all about taking chances so don’t be afraid and go for it! You will never know if you never try!
- Break out of your comfort zone.
Sometimes we get stuck in the day to day of doing the same things every day of the week. Break free of that cycle. Find new activities to do, there is so much going on right around you, so explore your surroundings!
- Today’s Forecast: 80 degrees and sunny all day.
Get outside and enjoy the weather. Go to outdoor shopping malls, eat outside, run outside around the neighborhood and sit on your patio. Just get outside! Too often we are stuck inside with our techy devices and we just need to unplug and find other ways to spend time outside enjoying the nice weather.
- Hugs relieve anxiety!
It’s a scientific fact, look it up! Hug more! FREE HUGS, anyone!
- A Giant Deep Dish Cookie with Two Scoops of Ice Cream …. YES PLEASE!
Anyone who knows me KNOWS that I always get desert. I’m not big fan of baked goods, but I love Ice Cream and restaurant deserts. Never say no, indulge and have another spoonful. And remember… the more toppings the better.
- Never say no to Pizza, Grilled Cheese…. or Mac n Cheese – have another bite!
No explanation needed. Next…..
- Chipotle is one of the best restaurants ever created, PERIOD.
Unfortunately for me, I have a chipotle right as I drive to and from the gym…. That is just cruel. It’s definitely a temptation to drive past it after a good 800 calorie burning bodypump class. All you want to do is waste all that hard work on one 800 calorie burrito. C’mon you have self-restraint, right? Ha not me, indulge… in moderation.
- Laughter is the Best Medicine
Laughter is a necessary part of life. A person that can make you laugh is definitely someone you want as a constant in your life.
- Fashion is everything!
Have fun, experiment and be wild! Need I say more?
- You can never have too much jewelry……… or purses or shoes!
Enough said… Get another! 😉
- Make a bucket list
I know this sounds kind of cliché but now you can make this on a post it app on your phone that will make it easy. But I am channeling two movies: A Walk to Remember and Last Vegas. What I grasped out of these movies was that it’s important to have a bucket list and include some pretty out of the box items to the list. It’s a fun way to gain some life changing experiences!
- Last but certainly not least: Be Happy
At the end of the day if you are not happy then what’s the point! Do what makes you happy. Taking care of yourself is your priority and happiness is definitely #1 on that list!
What is something you learned after reflecting on a prior year!?
